HTC Hero 2.1 update on Sprint coming May 9th.

Although it has been a moving date due (last told we were expecting the update on April 9th), it looks as though the update date for the HTC Hero on Sprint has now been pushed back to May 9th. Owning this phone has been an exercise in patience. It is only a few months old and is still only running on 1.5 (that is if I had kept mine stock). It is possible the delay is a result of the SenseUI developed by HTC, or it is possible the delay is a result of Sprint dragging it's feet to get these updates out to the people. I seriously hope Google is watching this and how fragmented its market/app pool has become and perhaps they can find a way to centralize the porting of apps, or development so that consumer buying a phone don't get stuck with an almost unusable piece of hardware 5 months after purchasing a new phone.

This is definitely not new news by any measure, but it is still a festering boil on the face of a product full of potential (AndroidOS / SenseUI by HTC). As it stands, the core apps of Sprint that may be holding these upgrades back (Sprint Navigator) are becoming less relevant as Google Maps moves ahead at least on the newer versions.
